Series of readings in Welsh Colony, Argentina

In March and April, Grahame Davies carried out a series of readings and visits in Patagonia in Argentina. On March 30, he performed a reading at Gaiman in the lower Chubut valley, a community which was founded by Welsh emigrants in the 19th Century as part of their settlement in Argentina.

On March 31, he visited Ysgol yr Hendre a recently-established Welsh-medium primary and infants school at Trelew, the region's main town, and another community of Welsh origin.

On April 3, he visited Gaiman's Colegio Camwy where he discussed his work with secondary school students who are studying Welsh.

On April 5, on the western side of Chubut province, he performed a reading at Nain Maggie's tea house in the village of Trevelin in the Andes, a community established by Welsh pioneers as an offshoot from the original community centred on Gaiman.

Then on April 6, he read at Ysgol Gymraeg yr Andes, the Welsh centre in Esquel, the main regional town. There is a picture and a report (in Welsh) about the visit here. This was his second visit to Argentina. He went there in 2001 to help with a British Council project to put learners of Welsh in Argentina in contact with schools in Wales through the internet.
