Commission to commemorate centenary of Battle of Vimy Ridge. On July 15th, a new musical commission to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge was performed at the JAM on the Marsh music festival in Romsey Marsh in Kent, to a score by the British composer Tom Harrold and the Canadian composer Stuart Beatch, setting specially-written words by Grahame Davies. The work, ‘Voices of Vimy’ was commissioned by the festival and by ProCoro Canada, a professional choir based in Edmonton, and was performed by The BBC Singers, with one of the best Cellists in the UK – Jamie Walton, conducted by one of the finest church musicians in the UK – Daniel Cook. The concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio Three. |
